National Gallery of Australia: This major gallery has an Aboriginal section. One of its exhibits is 'The Aboriginal Memorial'. This is an installation of 200 hollow log coffins (empty) from Central Arnhem Land. The coffins commemorate all the Aboriginal people who have died defending their land. There are 200 coffins for 200 years of European settlement. These coffins are highly decorated and could be compared/contrasted to the Native American totem poles. The website gives a detailed description and explanation of the exhibit as well as providing excellent photographs.
