SPRING CREEK RAINBOW

Spring-Creek-2014-Small2.jpg

This “Caring for Country” painting is inspired by Australian Aboriginal dot painting tradition and the stories of the Rainbow Snake, a major Spirit Ancestor who carved out the rivers and shaped the land throughout Australia.

Here Rainbow is represented by Spring Creek and is lined with sharks, the totem for Spring Creek Elementary in Laramie WY. The dots represents the life giving rain and all the living things that walk this beautiful land; the plants, birds, animals, insects, children and people. The circles and their colors represent all the elementary schools in this great town. They are filled with dots representing all the wonderful children.

This mural was painted by the 4th and 5th Graders and designed by Rebecca Watson together with Artist in Residence Paul Taylor, Ferne Watson and the PTO. The handprints are of our student painters.

This painting teaches us to care for our water, our land and each other.
